2019 – The Year of the Canadian Cannabis Enthusiast

I like to say that there are two types of people in the world when it comes to knowledge on cannabis – those who are informed and understand the many benefits to humanity it has, and those who only know what they have been led to believe from scattered resources and unfortunate stigma.

If you're informed on the many benefits of cannabis, you probably have been using cannabis for some time, or perhaps you have a loved one whose quality of life has been improved by cannabis. If you are from the latter group, uninformed and against the revolution of cannabis, I’m sorry to be the one to inform you - but you have been lied to your entire life.

Sadly, even in the era of legalization, people continue to be led down the wrong path about what cannabis is and, more importantly, what it could be - because of the way certain governments are treating marijuana. It's treated as a drug that has been compared to and treated legislatively like alcohol and tobacco.

2019 will see an explosion of cannabis-related products on the market in ways that most Canadians can’t yet comprehend. If you can put cannabis into something, a cannabis enthusiast will find a way to do it – and many have already been doing so, albeit quietly in the shadows.

For us long-term cannabis users and enthusiasts, this approach is downright offensive.

2018 will always be remembered in Canada as the year that cannabis was legalized recreationally. This is an incredibly important milestone for the misunderstood plant. But 2018 was primarily a year for big business and significant risk in the cannabis sector. Licensed producers, retailers, investment funds, IPOs, Mergers, and Acquisitions – you get what I mean.

Now we see an introduction of edibles and other forms of cannabis consumption, micro cultivation, as well as many other fantastic business ideas that will come to life as a result of the next phase of cannabis legalization and the passage of time since October 17th.

Because of this evolution, I’m calling 2019 “the Year of the Canadian Cannabis Enthusiast”.

For those who understand what cannabis has to offer humanity and society, 2019 is for you! The stigma is decreasing, making way for one of the most resourceful and healthy substances in the world to finally shine.

2019 will see an explosion of cannabis-related products on the market in ways that most Canadians can’t yet comprehend. If you can put cannabis into something, a cannabis enthusiast will find a way to do it – and many have already been doing so, albeit quietly in the shadows.

Are you ready for cannabis-infused bath bombs? CBD infused shampoo? Raw cannabis salad? Cannabis cookbooks? Cannabis biomass? Cannabis plant-based textiles, plastics, building materials?

Most of these things already exist, and in 2019, the artisans and believers who invented them will finally have their opportunity to share the fruit of their labour with Canadians in a much more open and robust way.

With the explosion of new products coming to the market, there will be newspaper articles, media interviews, and public speaking opportunities. People who have spent their adult lives hiding their passions will find themselves featured in national publications or on the evening news.

It's exhilarating for those passionate about cannabis, and who've stuck it out through the stigma and society’s indignant and ignorant treatment of them as law-breaking hippie outsiders.

But with this opportunity comes great responsibility. Together with the licensed producers, retailers, licensing experts, testing laboratories and hundreds of already existing cannabis businesses, we have a collective responsibility to be above board to make cannabis legalization a success.

If we at Cannabiz Social can help you to understand legislation and to assist you with your marketing and communications in a compliant and creative way, we would love to do so!

Best of luck cannabis enthusiasts – this year is for you!
